coming in a bit earlier this year, the latest call of duty game (by name only) has dropped. what is there to say about black ops 4? well very little actually when talking about the content. i have a lot of complaints about this game but i'm giving it some time to (hopefully) get used to the game.
the one big problem i have with bo4 is the lack of content. this is due to 3 things for me. firstly i don't give a damn about blackout so it means nothing to me. secondly, they cut the campaign and that really sucks. i love playing through the cod campaigns, usually multiple times. not having a campaign in a cod game when it launches is such a massive disappointment and is sorely missed. no the specialist missions are NOT a suitable replacement, they are simply 2min specialist tutorials and cutscenes that i can watch on youtube. they suck.
thirdly, and most importantly, are the missing features, modes and general lack of multiplayer content. the main issue here is that when you compare it to the last franchise entry, cod ww2, then bo4 feels VERY barebones. i know cod games usually launch with the same set of features that are in bo4 but we have been spoiled with so many new features and additions with the last couple of cod games and i miss those in bo4.
what am i talking about? lets start with the obvious... lack of game modes. why do we always have to wait for months to get modes like gun game, infected and more recently... prop hunt? these are not difficult modes to add if you've done them in your game before (bo3 in this case). so why the hell not include them at launch? those are the game modes i enjoy these days since the regular old tdm, s&d and dom are just boring now. and the "new" control and heist modes are just crap.
the other thing that bo4 is really lacking in are progression systems and incentives. cod ww2 has divisions to rank up and prestige with rewards for doing so. there is an order system for daily, weekly and special challenges with rewards. same with the contract system. there are cosmetic weapon variants to collect. item collections to complete with in-game currency earned through time, orders, contracts etc. there is a headquarters with minigames, firing range, theater and a 1v1 pit.
cod ww2 is not a great cod but even early on in it's life cycle, it felt like there was so much to do and things to earn. there was always something to play for. in bo4, it's just the same old same like player level, weapon level and camos... boooooooring. even just a simple daily/weekly order system for xp or something would help a ton but no. and ffs give us infected, gun game and prop hunt PLEASE!
